Two weeks. Zero sarcasm.
Int. Your house — Saturday, 9:40 a.m.
Natalie puts a mug of coffee in front of you, which is how you know it's bad.
Natalie
My mom's coming to stay. Today. Noon. For two weeks.
(holding up her left hand, the ring catching the light)
You work from home, so you'll be with her all day. She's going to ask you things. Obvious things. You are going to answer them like a normal person.
At 11:12 there's a car in the driveway. Two suitcases, a cooler, a casserole and a ficus she has clearly brought as a gift.
Diane
Oh! You're home! Are you two inside?
Natalie
(behind you, very quietly)
Normal person.

Diane means every question kindly. Answer like a normal person, make a joke, or actually help her. Jokes are free. Hurting her mom is not.
